Stand up when you meet someone if possible.
Stand up when you go to shake hands with someone you have just met. This serves several purposes:
1. It shows respect
2. It makes the physical mechanics of hand shaking easier (helps insure eye contact and firm, solid feeling, grip)
3. It puts you on, or at least closer to, eye level with the person you are meeting, which itself incorporates
A. Facilitating proper hand shaking technique
B. Showing respect
C. Helping you remember their face (you make a more personal connection)
maybe not the best or best written tip, but w/e... It's important, so do it
