If you've used Windows for any reasonable length of time, you know that you need to occasionally defragment your hard drive. The built-in Windows defragger doesn't do the greatest of jobs, so many people turn to third party defraggers. My personal pick is IObit Smart Defrag which just came out of beta. It is a powerful and free defragger for Windows which has the ability to analyze your drive and make a recommendation as to whether you should defrag, not defrag or defrag and optimize. While it isn't necessarily quick, it does a good job and I can often notice a small performance boost after defragging and optimizing.
It also has the option to run in the background and defrag while your computer is idle. It has good options for scheduling and management of the background defrag process and the UI (user interface) is great. All in all, it's a really well designed, great little free piece of software.
