Inspired by yesterday's tip, this one is related. The K-Lite Codec Pack performs a similar function to VLC in that it enables you to watch and listen to lots of different formats of movies and music, but in a different way.
The K-Lite Codec Pack will install codecs on your computer, so you will be able to use Windows Media Player (or WMP Classic if you choose to install it since it comes with the codec pack), to play everything. This can be better than VLC particularly if you have peripherals that only work with Windows Media Player (like the remote that came with my computer, for example).
K-Lite is free and doesn't add any crap if you don't want it because the installation is highly customizable. If you don't want to use VLC and are on Windows, check it out.
